About Us: Your Hosts

We, Manuela and René are originally from Switzerland. Since the day we met, travel was the main focus of our lives. Together, we backpacked and drove all over North, Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe. During those travels, we stayed in thousands of posadas, hotelitos, guesthouses, B&Bs, motels, which instilled a longing to run a cute hotelito of our own one day. The desired location of our hotelito became clear in the very beginning of our travels. The beauty of Mexico with its friendly, open-minded, happy inhabitants conquered a special place in our hearts during our first visit way back in 1998-99. The rich culture, awesome cuisine, innocent romanticism and lightheartedness made it easy for us to decide — this is the place we wanted to settle.

After years of travel, in 2009, the hunger to explore new destinations rescinded and we got ready to pack up and move to Mexico. After scanning the Mexican coasts, we found a jewel — Puerto Escondido in the State of Oaxaca. This was the special place we'd been searching for. Puerto Escondido translates into 'the hidden port'. This is a place where Mexico is still allowed to be Mexico. Due to 'light' tourism, this town has not given up any of its original charm. There are no resorts, instead, sandy, mile long, palm studded, romantic beaches. Snorkeling, swimming are no luxury around here. Our local beach, Playa Zicatela, is a surfer's paradise with the famous 'Mexican pipeline' and many cozy, affordable cafés, bars, serving delicious local fare and other specialties.

Puerto Escondido is the perfect vacation for young and old. You can choose to go surfing, take a romantic stroll down the beach, or simply relax, recharge, enjoy nature and have fun. Our gem at Playa Zicatela is called 'Hotelito Swiss Oasis'. Be our guest, leave the daily grind behind and come chill in the Oasis.
